Argentina, dic. 2007.

Me ha costado mucho mucho sentarme y coger un rato para actualizar el blog (más de seis meses creo, jaja), aunque desde luego no ha sido porque me faltaran fotos.
Este diciembre tuve la suerte de ir 'de gorra' a Argentina, os dejo aquí parte de lo que vi en Buenos Aires.
La mayor parte de las fotos las tomé en los barrios de de San Telmo y La Boca. Algunos de las/os autoras/es los he conseguido localizar, otros no sé quiénes son.

It was hard to sit down and take the time to update the blog (last post was six months ago, I think), though I had enough pictures for a few posts.
Last december I was in Argentina; I leave here some bits of what I saw.
I took most of the photographs on the neighborhoods of San Telmo and La Boca. I could find some of the authors, but not all of them.

Sombras con rostro rojo / Shadows with red face.

Llevaba ya tiempo con estas fotos de sombras en el ordenador, con ganas de colgarlas, pero no encontraba nunca el momento. Las tomé en el barrio de Lavapiés, en mayo. La primera es mi favorita (las dos sombras abrazadas).

I have been trying to post these pics of shadows for a while, but I have not found the moment until now. I took them in May in Lavapiés (Madrid). My favourite is the one with the two hugged shadows.

Juntas por casualidad (o no) / Together by chance (or not)

Casi dos meses después de la última entrada. Poco tiempo, muchos libros, varios cursos y un par de proyectos después, vuelvo con unas pegatinas que, por casualidad (o no), vi por primera vez juntas, y luego por separado, donde una de ellas ya no era pegatina sino plantilla / estarcido / esténcil. Son la cara de una una niña (?) y una pegatina con forma ondulada que no soy capaz de describir. Autores: ni idea.
Aquí queda.

Two months after the last post. Short of time, many books, a few courses and a couple of projects, I come back with a post dedicated to a stickers that firstly saw together, by chance (or not). Later on, I found them separately in different places, and one of them it was not a sticker anymore but a stencil. They are the face of a girl (?) and something that I am not able to describe. Authors: no idea.

Nota posterior: Brocco y Guillermo me han aclarado de quiénes son las pegatinas ondulantes. Los responsables: corbatas en la ciudad.
Sólo falta por conocer el nombre de los autores de la cara de la niña (?).

Later remark: Brocco y Guillermo have told me that the authors of the wavy sticker are corbatas en la ciudad.
Who is the responsible of the girl's face (?)? It is still unknown for me.

¡Miau!... Pepita is Dead / Meow!... Pepita is Dead.

Bajando Argumosa hacia el Reina Sofía (Madrid) subí por Doctor Fourquet (por la que hacía años no pasaba) y encontré este gato de Sam3 con cara de persona, cerca de la tienda de Pepita is Dead que, pese a que no lo comprobé, doy por sentado sigue ahí. En esta tienda - caja de sorpresas encontraras esa ropa setentoide que veías en las fotos de tus padres y que siempre quisiste tener. Allí la tienen, y nueva. No muy cara pero tampoco para todos los días.


Walking down Argumosa street (Madrid, Spain) towards the Reina Sofia Museum, I went up Doctor Fourquet st. (where I hadn’t been for a log time) when I found this cat of Sam3, whose face remind me that of a person. In this street there is a vintage shop, Pepita is Dead; if you have always been looking at your parent’s pics with envy that’s your place. It has a complete brand new collection of 70ish clothes. Not an everyday store, but good prices for a special occasion.

Votagra, para ciudadanos impotentes e insatisfechos / Votagra, for impotent and unsatisfied citizens.

Gracioso cartel anunciando Votagra, un blog que invita a votar en las próximas elecciones (España), con una filosofía básica (que comparto plenamente): si no votas, no te quejes. Desde aquí un grano de arena contra la apatía generalizada, recuperemos el contrato entre gobiernos y ciudadanos y hagámoslos responsables de sus actos.

Funny poster found glued on a container. It is announcing Votagra (playing with two words, 'votar' (vote) and 'viagra), a blog that requests us to vote in the next elections (for every Spanish council and for the regional assembly in Madrid as well). I totally agree and support its philosophy: if you don't vote, don't complain. I'd like to do my bit from here with this post. We have to get back our contract with politicians, making them responsible of their acts.

Por cierto, la exposición de TGLQV? en la Sala Ladinamo se inagurará este martes 15 de mayo, convirtiéndose en la exposición permanente de dicho lugar cultural. Sitio agradable, recogido, buena música y con luz natural, a medio camino entre el café cultural, el pub cuentacuentos y el centro cultural. Para más información pulsar aquí.

By the way, the exhibition of the collective TGLQV?, in the cultural center Ladinamo, will be inaugurated next Wednesday (15th of May). It will be its permanent exhibition. Nice place, comfortable, cosy, good music... something between a cultural cafe and a convenional cultural center. More information here.

Todos sois el enemigo...Te Gusta Lo Que Ves? / Everyone is the enemy... Te Gusta Lo Que Ves?

Te Gusta Lo Que Ves? Colectivo madrileño de artistas dedicados a... bueno, ante la posibilidad de meter la pata, mejor me callo.
Aquí dejo una de sus pegatinas políticas, parte de lo poco que he alcanzado a ver de ellos con mis propios ojos. Sin embargo hay una orgía informativa sobre este colectivo en internet. Facilitándoos las cosas incluyo enlaces: contraindicaciones (noviembre), contraindicaciones (diciembre), consume hasta morir, escrito en la pared, etcétera.
Además, supuestamente Ladinamo (un centro cultural en Lavapies) ha inagurado recientemente una muestra suya (cuando me acerque a verla con mis propios ojos confirmaré dicha exposición) donde habría plantillas / estarcidos / stencils, anti-anuncios y demás obras.

Te Gusta Lo Que Ves? (Do you like what you are seeing?) A collective of artists based in Madrid, whose main activity is... well, better not to mess things up.
I'm letting here one of their political stickers, some of the few thing that I could see with my eyes. However, there is an informative orgy about this collective in the net. I tried to make things easier and I gathered some links where you people can get more information if you like: contrindicaciones (noviembre), contraindicaciones (diciembre), consume hasta morir, escrito en la pared, etcetera.
Besides, it seems that Ladinamo (a cultural nook in Lavapies) has organized an exhibition with the work of this collective, with part of their stencils, anti-adverts and so on. I'll confirm this event when I go there.

Azulejos avergonzantes / Embarrassing tiles.

Azulejos como elemento decorativo. Al principio a la moda. Pasan los años: anticuados y avergonzantes. Diez años más: se puede intentar ser objetivo.

• ¿Bonitos? Pregunta mal formulada.

• ¿Funcionales? A quién importa.

• ¿Por qué fotografiarlos? Me traen recuerdos y están muy asociados a una estética que siempre me ha parecido muy atractiva, incómoda pero atractiva.

Tiles as a decorative element. At the beginning, trendy. Later on: outmoded and embarrassing. After ten years more: possibly, it is enough time to be objective.

• Beautiful? Wrong question.

• Useful? Who cares.

• Why to stop to take a picture? They bring me lots of good memories and are associated with a very specific aesthetic, which I always though it was very charming, inconvenient though charming.
